fyah links

Here are my favourite links this week (in no particular order):

Shadow and Act’s 2011 Film Compilation – Shadow and Act has brought me great joy this year (thanks derevolushunwidin), keeping me updated on black/african/afro-diasporic films being released around the world. The compilation includes a few of my favourite films for the year like I Will Follow, Gun Hill Road and Attack the Block. See any of your favourites in the montage?

Khaliyl Iloyi Rapping  – I know this clip is 3 weeks old but it brightens up my day and melts my ice-cold heart every time I watch it. I have ColorLines Celebrate Love to thank for introducing me to this (every day after all the depressing posts about how messed up the world is, they post something really positive happening, or something to make you smile). Miserable days have no chance with 2 year old Khaliyl smiling and rapping in a language no one can quite understand.

First Thought After Seeing Your Mouth Smile – You know how I feel about Warsan Shire already. So not surprisingly when my friend directed me to this poem I was once again in love.

Sending lots of love for fyah fams who are celebrating whatever you celebrate this eason!

  1. ********** The montage was a little long for me but Shadow and Act continues to be one of the best resources ever.
    Guilty Pleasures
    —- Attack the Block
    Wish I’d Seen
    —- Pariah
    —- Black Power Mixtapes
    Glad I’ve Never Seen
    —- The Help
    Not Upset I’ve Seen
    —- Columbiana
Wish I Hadn’t Seen on Some Level (b/c far too emotional)
    —- I Will Follow

*********** That little boy is the cutest

*********** It’s decided, poetry is too raw for me. I may have to quit it.
